Black Nintendo Wii

The black Nintendo Wii gaming system was released in Europe and Japan in 2009, and finally hit shelves in the United States in May 2010. Several rumors swarmed about its release in the States before it was finally done. It seems Nintendo provides Japan with more variety in their products than they do the US, so it was unsure if Americans would have access to the new color up until its launch.

This console offers a color variation from the standard white system in which the Wii has been produced since its release in late 2006. Nintendo has been hinting at various colored Wii systems since before its launch. However, they have had such a difficult time keeping the simple white console on the shelf that they did not have the time to think about color changes. Supply issues came first, though many anticipated consoles of various colors.

Now, gamers are given a choice of black Nintendo Wiis, which will allow them to match the black of an X-Box 360 or Playstation 3. Many see this is a strong marketing tactic for the company, as consumers generally prefer to have their electronic devices be the same color. Gamers have gladly traded in their previous Wiis or purchased new ones, just to have the latest color options.

The new black Wii is only available in a bundle, and currently comes with one black Wii remote designed with MotionPlus, a black Wii nunchuk, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort. This is an upgrade from the previous Wii bundles, which only came with a remote, nunchuck, and Wii Sports. The play and function of the black Nintendo Wii is just that of the white, as is the suggested retail price at $199.99.

Wii Sports Resort is a sequel to the Wii Sports game that was included in the purchase of the first Wiis. It offers 12 games, some of which are upgrades from the options on the original game. Others, including Archery, are new to the console.

The game puts the new technology of Wii MotionPlus to good use. This advancement allows users to receive better results when moving the remote. It is definitely an improvement over the standard remote, though the original is good as well.

The black Wii is also backwards compatible, meaning it can be used to play Nintendo GameCube games. The Wii Channel can also still be utilized, allowing you to select and download your favorite games. Memory cards can still be used on the new system as well.

Overall, the new black Nintendo Wii has been well accepted by gamers. The new sleek style, along with bonus additions to the bundle, have made it a solid choice for those who prefer Nintendo.
